The Founding story behind Wasthy

More than a decade ago, two Chileans, Cristóbal and Jorge, reconnected after following different professional paths but sharing a common passion. Cristóbal had been working in England,  Europe and the middle east, leading sustainable urban infrastructure solutions; Jorge, in Chile, had dedicated his career to infrastructure for mining and essential services. Despite the distance, something deeply united them: a shared frustration toward plastic pollution and the helplessness of seeing how the Chilean landscapes they loved were scarred by waste.

Both grew up with a profound love of nature, with the mountains, forests, and ocean as part of their identity. Each time they returned to these places and saw plastic waste, they felt their country’s beauty was being stolen away.

It was this indignation, more than any pre-defined plan, that became the driving force of a shared project. With their accumulated experience in global infrastructure, clean technologies, and innovative business models, they decided to channel their vision into a pragmatic, action-driven cleantech venture.

Thus, Wasthy was born—a dynamic and modern cleantech company created with one purpose: to transform waste into renewable hydrogen and energy, returning value where once there was only loss.

Wasthy? Wasiti? – The Essence Behind the Name

The name “Wasthy” emerges from a play on words that perfectly reflects its purpose. It takes the root of the English term *waste* and transforms it into something more powerful: the H of hydrogen, the universal symbol of clean energy and the future.

It is the synthesis of their vision: to give a new cycle to what was once considered waste and transform it into the engine of a sustainable tomorrow—with technology, and together.

Wasthy is not just a company; it is a response to an environmental wound. Its purpose is clear: to implement modular, scalable technological solutions tailored to each community, industry, or government—solutions that go beyond promises to deliver practical, tangible results.

By integrating cutting-edge European technology with local and national realities and needs, Wasthy seeks to restore polluted spaces, return them to nature, and enable a circular future where waste and energy are intrinsically connected.

In the words of its founders: “We founded Wasthy to reclaim what pollution took from nature. Our commitment is to build bridges between technology and ecology, between today’s urgency and tomorrow’s hope. #sewasthy / #bewasthy”
